About

Our Mission

The Provincial Employees Care for Kids Daycare Centres aim to provide safe, nurturing environments in which children can explore and discover independently while in the care of trained, professional Early Childhood Educators. The Centres encourage respect for self and others, independence, problem solving, creativity, positive self-esteem and cooperation.

The Provincial Employees Care for Kids strive to promote the overall development of the child – physically, emotionally, socially and intellectually.

In order to put this philosophy into practice, the Centres aim to achieve the following goals:

  • To establish, operate and maintain infant, toddler and preschool programs that are responsive to the child care needs of Manitoba Provincial Government employees, community at large and their children.

  • To provide infant, toddler and preschool programs that promote positive growth and development.

  • To employ Early Childhood Educators committed to the provision of high quality experiences and the positive development of children in their care.

  • To provide infant, toddler and preschool programs that promote parental involvement.

  • To maintain open and ongoing lines of communication between child care staff and parents.

History of Provincial Employees Care for Kids Co-op Inc.

After three years of careful planning, the first Provincial Employees Care for Kids Co-op, incorporated in 1982 and opened for operation on April 29, 1985 at 208 Osborne Street North. The establishment of a Provincial Government employee-employer co-operative came in response to an identified need for child care services for Provincial Government employees. The response to the Daycare Centre was overwhelming, and within a few short months the Centre was full.

The child care needs of Provincial Government employees continued to grow with a second facility, located at 800 Portage Avenue, opening on April 2, 1990.

In January of 2013 a third location was established on the third floor of Cityplace. Priority enrollment for this facility  is given to employees of Manitoba Public Insurance and Provincial Government employees.

The Daycare at 208 Osborne Street North is licensed for 48 child care spaces: 16 for infants and toddlers ages three months to two years, and 32 for preschool children ages two to five years.

The Daycare at 800 Portage Avenue is licensed for 40 child care spaces: 12 for infants and toddlers, ages three to twenty-four months, and 28 for preschool children ages two to five years.

The Daycare at cityplace has 32 infant and toddler spaces, ages three months to three years and 70 preschool spaces ages two to five years.

The Centres are open to all children whose parent(s) are employed by the Provincial Government, its’ Crown Corporations, agencies and commissions, as well as the community at large.

The Daycares are non-profit subsidized Centres, operating with a Board of nine members, the majority of whom are parent users.

The Centres offer a wide variety of programs for children and encourages parental participation. The Provincial Employees Daycare Centres have been a success and will continue to provide high quality child care to all those enrolling in the years ahead!
